Growing Up with Czech Animation

I spent some incredibly happy moments of my childhood in the Czech Republic, surrounded by the care and affection of my Czech friends. I grew up with Zdeněk Miler’s animated films and illustrations, Josef Čapek’s fairy tales, and the magical children’s songs of Jaromír Nohavica.

Now, as an adult, it brings me great joy to give some of that back to a new generation through the animated series and feature film Hungry Bear Tales, which I had the pleasure of working on as an editor.

These are stories about the importance of finding true friends, helping others, overcoming your fears, and learning to forgive. And, of course, about not forgetting to enjoy some delicious food along the way!

I am incredibly grateful to Bionaut Animation for giving me the opportunity to be part of this project, and to the wonderful colleagues and friends who made it possible: producer Bára Chaberová (Příkaská), directors Kateřina Karhánková and Alexandra Májová, sound masters Jiří Gráf, Marek Poledna and Jan Richtr, and, of course, Filip Pošivač, the brilliant artist and designer behind the visual world of the bears.

A very special thank you also goes to our wonderful Czech animation team at Kredenc studio and to the animators at Treehouse Republic, whose talent, patience and craftsmanship helped bring the bears and their world to life. ❤️
